Ogden's Very Own Legend
When one thinks of a legend, many different things may come to mind. One such thing is a man that has achieved status and respect in their career. And here in Ogden we have one such person in our midst, our very own Dicky Martinez.
I myself have known Dicky for twenty years and am honored to have the opportunity to share with you the beginnings of his and the Little Big Band's musical career.
It might be hard to believe that Dicky has been in the music field for the past 45 years. Dicky's Dad was an accomplished musician so it was no surprise when at the age of nine Dicky and his brother Tommy formed their own neighborhood band. They called them selves "The Navy Blues." This is when they entered their first talent show and realized how much they loved performing in front of a live audience.
Over the years, Dicky has preformed in many places including; Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, as well as Wyoming. While performing in Las Vegas NV, Dicky had the opportunity to meet the former drummer for James Browns, Ollie Lemay. Ollie agreed to join the band that at the time was called the Martinez Brothers.
One day while discussing the less than original name that they were playing under Ollie looked ant Tommy and said, " Your little." Then he looked at Dicky and said, " Your Big." Consequently that's how the name the little big band came about. And it as remained as such to this very day.
While most legends have fans, Dicky Martinez has friends. And many, many people pride themselves on being on of Dicky's friends.
So on the behalf of all your friends Dicky,
Thank you for the past years and we look forward to seeing you as often as life will allow.
